The Salem and Lowell used Lowell and Lawrence trackage from Tewksbury Jct to Lowell. The line from Wamesit to North St was used as an industrial siding up until the Guilford era and much of the iron remains.
I am experimenting with a program to generate picture galleries as well as make it easy to go from picture to picture. Unfortunately it doesn't read the descriptions from the jpeg file. I'm looking for an easy way to add a description to the picture files. As of right now there are no descriptions except in this writeup.
The first few pictures are of a westbound freight train just out of Wamesit. The Lowell and Lawrence runs between the train and the road in the foreground.
The next few pictures are of the Bellevue Rd crossing in Tewksbury. The right of way is intact from Bellevue rd up to route 133, a very short distance.
The right of way towards the South has been encroached upon and is not visible in the picture. You see a house and a driveway. The driveway is where the ROW should be.
Next stop was route 133. The location of Haggetts station. The right of way is intact down to Bellevue Rd but surprisingly is not in use up to the next crossing.
After route 133 I headed up Haggetts Pond Rd and stopped at the crossing. Going north the right of way is as plain as day. Looking South back to route 133 it's all trees.
Next and last stop was High Plain rd. The right of way crossed. Looking towards Haggetts pond it was quite plain. In the other direction you can see it but not as easily. The last pictures are of the embankment near the crossing. The embankment goes on for a short distance and is then obliterated by 495. The Lowell and Lawrence crossed over 495 at about the same point as 495 goes over 93.
There is plenty more to see of this line, I hope to get back there soon.
