May 2006 flood. Looking upriver at the railroad bridge over the Merrimack
River in Haverhill from the Bradford side. Water is quite high and moving
fast. Fortunately the wall that was built after the 1936 flood held and
kept the downtown section from becoming flooded.

Eagle eyed Lisa found this archaeological treasure, abandoned turntable and roundhouse in Portsmouth NH. Not that unusual to find a turntable pit, but to still have the bridge and the operators shack is quite unusual. There are only a few stalls of the roundhouse left because of a fire about 60 years ago.

Many thanks to Buddy Winiarz, current president of the Boston and Maine Historical Society for the use these fine pictures from his personal collection.
These were taken on June 11 of 1990.

Thanks for stopping by. My interest is abandoned railroad lines. This page is an ongoing project to document what is still around. I have been updating the page almost every day, sometimes every other day.
Unfortunately old railroad right of ways, abutments, stations, freight houses, and other remains of railroads of the past, have been disappearing. I hope to document as much of what's left as is possible.
What you'll find on this page is a collection of pictures that I have taken, text, as well as maps that show where I've been and what I've found. There's about 700MB or so online and it's still growing.
I have started a notification list. This is an informal list that I maintain in my Hotmail account and use it to notify regular readers of changes, updates, and stuff. Occasionally I'll include some photos. If you're interested in getting on the list, please send me an email. My address is at the bottom of the page.
I've gotten some very nice emails from people over the last few months. Thanks very much for writing. I may not have much time to update the page but I do answer emails, usually the same day. Feel free to write.
If you have any question or comments about the site, please
send me an email message.

Another fine picture from Lisa, this one is of a spur that used to serve
a company off of Adams St in Danvers, MA.. This spur left the Wakefield
to Newburyport line near Holten St. and crossed Crane Brook on an embankment.
The spur continued across Adams St, thru someones backyard and then into
the plant.
Nice shot of a small bridge carrying the Essex RR over the Crane River in Danversport MA.
The Waters River Trestle carrying the former Essex RR over the Crane
River between Danvers and Peabody MA.
Click here for a nice picture gallery
of this trestle including closeups from the Peabody end.
Another fine picture courtesy of Lisa McCauley. Sepo heading east, crossing
over route 85 in Exeter.
