Short Quicktime Movie Clips

Lisa's new Kodak digital camera can make short movie clips and they even include sound.
On Sunday May 1, 2005 we were able to catch a couple of freight trains and while I was taking still pictures, Lisa was using the film feature of her camera.
The "movies" are in Apple's Quicktime format and have the .mov extension.

Sepo at East St.
6 minutes, 2 CSX enjines, 3 PanAm cars and a couple of tresspassers to boot.

Here is a quick one minute video of EDWA in Andover. There appears to have been a small grass fire along the right of way which melted the plaistic fence that seperates a parking lot from the railroad.

Well, we finally caught up with the coal train on June 26, 2005 in Nashua at Crown Street. Here is NA2 heading north. This video is the longest we have done so far. It's about 7 minutes long and the file size is 100 megs. If you are going to download it, remember, you can start the download then do something else while the file is coming in. This train has 3 NS en-jines on the head end and an estimated 100 cars. I didn't count them but I can tell you it was a long train.

This first short film is my favorite. It is EDWA (East Deerfield, MA to Waterville ME) climbing the hill at East Kingston. The East Kingston station is in the background. Because of the grade crossing we get plenty of bell and horn action. The train has 4 en-jines and only 13 cars. They must be moving power around and probably made a big setoff in Lawrence or Lowell.
We heard the train was on the way on the ham radio that we use to monitor the railroad, we made it down to EK less than two minutes before the train arrived.

(Dowload time approx 4 minutes on high speed connection, approximately an hour or so on dialup)

This second short film runs 2 minutes and is RURJ in Exeter NH. Unfortunately no horn or bell sounds but it was a longer train. We were parked in the town forest which is just after the route 85 underpass if you are heading north on 85. You go under the railroad bridge and bang an immediate left.
Good spot, only disadvantage is limited view looking either east or west because you are on the inside of a slight curve.

(Download time approx 6 or 7 minutes on high speed, 90 minutes or so on dialup)

Here is a nice very short film of EDWA in Andover. Great sound and black smoke. This file is only about 3 megs so if you have a dialup connection it won't take too long to download. This video was done on 5-15-05.
(Download time less than one minute on high speed, 10 to 15 minutes on dialup)

In the longest video yet, here is POMO rounding the sharp curve at Bradford. This video is 60 megs and runs about 4 minutes or so. Excellent sound. The train is going quite slow as it comes across the bridge and rounds the super-elevated and very sharp curve.
(Download time 20 minutes high speed, 3-4 hours on dialup)

Here is a nice short video showing a westbound downeaster rounding the curve at Lawrence with the Sperry Rail Service 146 waiting on the siding between the switches for the M&L and the former Lowell and Lawrence. The video was taken from the site of the former FA tower.
(Download time 2 or 3 minutes high speed,  25 mins on dialup)
