Richard Symms gave me a tip that the former Howe station on the Essex RR in Middleton may still exist as a house. He described where it was so my first stop was the check it ou.
I headed east on 62, towards Danvers, and when I got to the lights at the Howe Station Market I took a left, drove down and four or so houses later there was a house with the distinctive station-like roof line.
As you can see the house, if it was the station, has been extensively remodeled but you can see the station-like roofline.
It was obviously built out to the end of the eves as well as added on from behind and in front. More research needs to be done on this.
Next stop was West Peabody Jct. Here we are at the switch to go onto the S&L from the line to Newburyport.
Here we are looking towards Newburyport straight and the curve goes
to Salem.
Looking towards Newburyport, the S&L track on the left, you can
see the diamond is missing. You can also see that there was once a road
crossing and on the S&L and just a little further down, one on the
Newburyport line.
S&L looking West. Picture taken from the diamond.
Looking towards Wakefield on the Wakefield/Newburyport line, I thought the foliage was supposed to be gone this time of year. Not at WPJ.
The former diamond...showing the long ties for the crossing.
Here is the line to Salem just East of the diamond. You can see the S&L in the foreground and the track connecting the Newburyport line and the SL in the background.
Another view of same area. Main line, line from Newburyport, crossover track.
Kind of like a small yard here.
