6-17-07 Finally an update. Lisa and I went up to the Rock and found that some serious work is being done to the station. Check out the picture gallery.

5-21-06 Weekly DSH update, Grove Hall gone last week. This week I have been told that both the female tubercular home and the operating room have been destroyed. This leaves only C ward left to be destroyed. The slate has been removed from C ward, the entire roof from D ward, just like what was done to G ward and the central admin.

5-14-06 Short DSH update. We've been getting a LOT of rain. The fields on the lower grounds are flooded. Grove Hall has been destroyed. Things on the hill look about the same. Pictures taken in the rain. Enjoy.

5-9-06 Finally put the weekly DSH update online. Not much to report on Friday, things looked pretty much the same except for some sewer or water pipe work on the lower grounds and going up the hill. I have received word that demolition of Grove Hall has begun. It was pouring rain when I left work today, so it wasn't worth the ten bucks in gas to go down and back to check it out. Maybe tomorrow.

4-30-06 Danvers State Hospital update. Grove hall still standing. Ward B, Female Tubercular Home, Operating Room, and Grove Hall all that remain to be taken down.

4-19-06 DSH Update, received word that the Gables had been torn down, checked it out, unfortunately it's true, only a little piece remains. Check out the pictures.

4-15-06 Took some more after dark pics of DSH from Putnam Ln. Some of them came out pretty well.

4-15-06  4-15-06 DSH Update. Grove Hall still there, State PD car in front of Grove Hall, Gables still there, they're lighting the place up quite bright at night. See the first picture.

4-7-06 Posted DSH 4-7-06 update. Not much has changed, Grove hall has had boards removed from the windows and some of the windows are open. The pictures in this update are a little bigger. 1284 pixels wide. The descriptions and comments are on the thumbnails so you will want to go thru the thumbnails first then look at the full sized pics. Enjoy.

4-6-06 Finally posted the 3-26-06 dsh update. 11 days late but I was busy with work and last Friday thru Monday I was sick with the flu. I expect to have a more timely update on Fri, Sat, or Sun. In my opinion, from what I have seen, they are cleaning up before proceeding on to the other side of the building and continuing their needless and senseless destruction of a formerly beautiful building. I have posted the update because I went down and took the pictures and wanted them online for comparison, a timeline, where you can go from update to update and see the differences. The pictures are in 1024*768 resolution and very little if any compression. It was a lousy day to take pictures. Keep in mind that all pictures taken in this update were taken on 3-26-06. It's a late update.

2-24-2006 - Took a spin past DSH after work. Took a bunch of pictures. The Gables are still standing, J Ward and Annex are gone, looks like Farm Hall is next. 60 pictures or so of senseless destruction.

2-17-06 Destruction of the Bonner Medical Building and the former Danvers State Hospital grounds.

1-1-2006 added a picture gallery of DSH from a distance. DSH has been sold to Avalon Bay and unfortunately will be torn down and replaced with condominiums. They say they are going to restore the center admin building and a few wings each side but I don't believe it. From a distance the place looks the same as it did a year ago, except this year we have snow and we didn't last year. I have seen some up and close pictures. They are working on removing asbestos. The Gables has had the siding torn off the side and the back. If you want to have a look at the place, you had better do it quick. Avalon Bay seems to be moving as quickly as they can with this.

5-24-05 Added yet another new movie. This one shows the Downeaster rounding the sharp curve in Lawrence heading west. To the left of the Downeaster is the Sperry Rail Services 146 on the siding between the M&L and the former Lowell and Lawrence which is now and industrial spur. This movie is a short download and is no problem for those on dialup connections. Comments welcome. Enjoy

5-19-05 Added a new movie, this one starring POMO rounding the sharp curve in Bradford right by the former Bradford station. This video is about 4 and a half minutes and is a sizable download but has good sound and you can see how slowly the trains go over the bridge and around the sharp, superelevated curve at Bradford. 5-18-05 Added gallery of pictures from the former Benson's Animal Farm. I took these a year or two ago. The place was open so I took a stroll through to see what remained. The station in the picture is the former Hudson WN&P station. I have one more gallery of pics of this place to add at some point.

5-16-05 Added a short film to the movies page. A film of EDWA in Andover. The film is a very short one. If you are on a dialup connection, this film is for you. It shows the three enjines working hard and belching black smoke. Good sound too. Look for it at the bottom of the movies page.

5-11-05 Added a couple of short movies taken with a digital camera. The quality is ok and the sound is good. Check them out. Looking for feedback on them.

5-8-05  Added a nice picture gallery of the Waters River Trestle that goes across the Waters River from Peabody to Danvers. The trestle has unfortunately been set on fire and is not in very good shape but it is still there. This gallery has some nice closeup pictures taken from the Peabody end.

3-14-05 Over the weekend got some pictures of one of the new PanAm boxcars. I posted one of the pics to NewEngland Rail and was surprised at the interest it drew so I decided to put the six pictures that I took on Sunday online in a picture gallery. 1-16-05 Added some pictures of the Salem and Lowell RR in Lowell, in the S&L Lowell section.
 

1/15/05 Added a gallery of pictures of the Eastern RR right of way on the west side of Hampton Harbor in Hampton Falls NH. These pictures were taken on a very very cold Dec 12 of 04. It's high tide, windy, looks like it could snow any minute and poor Lisa is freezing cold. Pictures came out well.
 

1/14/05 Added new links page to Danvers State Hospital page.

1-9-05 Added two new pictures to the main page with the theme of "winterizing" the page. Changing out the fall picture with a couple of winter ones. It's supposed to be 60 this Thursday but for now we have plenty of snow thanks to a storm on Saturday.

Added a new picture gallery on Danvers State Hospital. DSH is not going to be around much longer so there will be an emphasis to get pictures while the getting is good.

12-17-04 Added an index page for the model railroad layouts that have been added recently

12-16-04 Added some more pictures of the former Danvers State Hospital, the asylum behind Asylum Station on the Essex RR.

12-14-04 Converted the Eastern Route Newburyport page over to a picture gallery and made some other modifications to make it more efficient bandwidth wise. The pictures in this gallery are quite interesting, they were taken in May of 02 before the cleanup of the right of way.

12-11-04  And now for something completely different, almost, Roger Somers Meshapock Valley Otr layout. A nice streetcar layout with overhead catenary. This layout is done in O guage and features trolleys as well as freight. Layout number 9 of 9.

12-10-04 A very nice layout in Tewksbury owned by Matt Sheedy. This layout takes up most of the cellar and is in multiple rooms and is a multiple level layout with several good sized bridges. This is a very fine N scale layout.

12-9-04 A very nice layout in Reading is Bob Leavitt's Sweet Water and Aberjona RR. It is in HO scale and is very well detailed.

12-8-04 An interesting work in progress is Malcom and Ed Robinson's Reading Terminal Railroad, and HO scale layout in Reading. This layout features 5 yards and was built as an operating layout. The blocks of wood next to the flourescent lights are to support a second layer that will be built on top of the first. The lights were put in to light the bottom layer.

12-7-04 Not just another layout on the Tour de Chooch, this is the late Bob Allen's Stingy River RR. Many thanks for Bobby Cabrera, Bob's Grandson, for continuing to operate the layout and for opening on the TDC. Here are another 130 or so pictures.

12-6-4 Had to restore from backup after new 200 GB hard drive failed to perform properly. Should have known better than to go with Maxtor. Looks like we are back to where we were. The site is on a raid of two scsi high speed drives. Making a new backup as I type this. Please email if you come across any problem with the site.

12-6-04 Another nice layout that was on the Tour de Chooch is Bruce Robinson's Valley Junction Railroad. Bruce is behind the Tour de Chooch and it was someone he knew in the advertising world who came up with the Tour de Chooch name. Bruce's layout is in Sandown NH and is in HO scale. There were a LOT of people crammed into a small space so it was tough taking pictures at this layout. Please excuse an arm in the picture here or the blur of someones hand in front of the lens there. This layout is well done and I understand it gets a lot of operation.
 

12-5-04 Yet another fine Tour de Chooch layout. This one in Hampton Falls NH and owned by Peter Miville.

12-04-04 Another Tour de Chooch layout. This one also in Georgetown. Norm Down's Suncook Valley RR is a very nice layout of Norm's vision of the Suncook Valley RR had is survived. This layout is in HO.

12-2-04 This passed weekend was the annual Tour de Chooch. 20 model railroad layouts open to the public. I visited 9 of them. Here is a gallery of pictures of the first one. Rick Keller's New England Rails. A very impressive N scale layout in Georgetown. I whittled the gallery down to 283 pictures. Recommend including this one if you go on the tour next year.

11-30-04 Put up a new gallery of Rockingham Junction pictures, taken on 11-28-04. The station is under new ownership and they are supposed to be restoring it. So far they have secured the building and removed a lot of junk from the building.

11-8-04 Converted M&L Derry page over to picture gallery. Please note that in the new galleries there will be a home button that is available on every page, this button takes you back to the opening page.
This replaces the Exit to Main Menu text found at the top of some galleries.

10-5-04 Here are some pictures of the late Bob Allen's Stingy River RR. The first set of pictures is Lisa operating the outdoor layout. I'm sitting behind her in the same gondola car taking the pictures. The little locomotive was very powerful and went faster than you would want to go. It had the power to pull the two of us around the layout like it was nothing. The second set of pictures is the inside layout. My digital camera wasn't that great with the indoor pictures. These pictures were taken when Bob graciously invited us over during the summer of 2003. We miss him very much.

He's says they were more impressed with the indoor layout than with this outdoor one.

10/1 added new section called Travel Log, this will document where I've been and what I've seen.

9/30 Updated Georgetown branch, added map, removed pictures beyond Georgetown as these will go on the Newburyport RR page at some point in the future. The G-town branch only went as far as Georgetown. From there you're on the Newburyport RR.
       Updated the Merrimac Branch page, fixed some minor errors.
